The Console Wars
Intro
Many describe the console wars as “dumb” and “unnecessary”, but those who make those accusations are incorrect in my books. The console wars are extremely important; they assist many in deciding which console they want to purchase alongside the company they wish to support, and it can teach people about aspects of consoles and hardware that they didn’t know previously and finally it can spark friendly debates… but at the cost of harsh and vulgar arguments. This page below will contain my opinions on certain hardware and you will disagree with something, that is for certain. But, if you can accept my opinions and respect them, allow me to guide you downward. Also, while I will likely mention the other hardware companies, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft are the biggest and my primary objective.

Nintendo
-
Nintendo’s modern consoles are usually considered the greatest, but overall I’d say that the Nintendo DS is my all time favorite. It has backwards compatibility with GBA titles and an exclusive line of amazing titles. Also, the idea of a second screen was ingenius.
-
Unpopularly, the Wii U gamepad. A close second is the GameCube controller but the gamepad is definitive in my eyes. It fits perfectly in my hands, and the buttons are terrifically accessible and feel amazing to press down. And obviously, the touchscreen is the main attraction and it looks very good alongside the buttons. Basically, I love this controller.

I love several of Nintendo’s games, but EarthBound stands out to me. It certainly isn’t the best looking, and it doesn’t have the best controls, but it has my favorite story, world, characters and dialogue in any Nintendo game. The combat is unique and the music is unbelievable too, only defeated by Donkey Kong Country.

The original NES and the Wii are undoubtedly the most influential Nintendo systems of all time. The NES revived the gaming industry singlehandedly after the extreme downfall of video game hardware during the prime Atari era and the Wii attracted casual gamers instead of hardcore players with simple yet innovative titles such as Wii Sports with a controller accessible to literally anyone.

Sony
-
The PS3 is my all time favorite. The PS4 is undoubtedly the system I spent the most time on, but the PS3’s initial model had backwards compatibility with the previous PlayStations, it outsold the Xbox 360 and the design is the greatest of any PlayStation console. And don’t get me started with that exclusive lineup. Uncharted, Infamous, Ratchet and Clank, The Last of Us and Metal Gear Solid 4, not to mention the others.
-
Although each PlayStation controller is excessively similar in terms of design and functionality (Nintendo definitely has the most variety with their controller designs), the PlayStation 5 controller is the most modern and good looking. It could’ve been the PS4 controller, considering the similarity, but the PS5, again, has a better design and more modern and satisfying feel.
-
The Last of Us is my favorite PlayStation game to date. There are better looking games, but the story and characters in The Last of Us are unmatched. The music brings the intensity and beauty of the game to a higher degree and it changed the way many gamers (like me) viewed video games.
-
Either the first or the second PlayStation, however, I’ll have to go with the PS1, as it was a game changer. It outsold its competitors by a mile with a cheaper price than the others, it had more appealing marketing and controller and it utilized discs, which were cheaper to manufacture and could store more information, eliminating Nintendo’s victory probabilities in the generation. So, because of the discs and the bigger, longer and more cinematic games released (and they were simply more attractive at the time, although many loyal individuals stuck with the N64 for classic titles such as Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye 007), the original PlayStation stays on top.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more.
